Golden Ocala’s Golf Pro, Mike Cooney, and Tennis Pro, Thiroshan Chetty, were both recently interviewed by the Voice of Ocala’s Buddy Martin. The Voice of Ocala is the local source for news, talk, music, and sports. The radio show airs every weekday from 3-6 p.m. on WOCA – the Source 96.3FM and 1370AM serving Ocala and The Villages, FL.

Mike’s Interview

During Mike Cooney’s interview, he discussed previous golf tournaments, the Golden Ocala tribute holes, and his opinion regarding the direction in which the sport of golf is heading. Buddy Martin was interested in knowing that Golden Ocala’s course has 8 tribute holes from other courses around the world: 1 from Royal Troon, 1 from Muirfield, 4 from Augusta, 2 from St. Andrews, and 1 from Baltusrol. Cooney’s personal favorite is hole #12 at Golden Ocala, which is patterned after hole #13 from Augusta. Cooney also gave a few tips like the “2 As”: be Aware of what you’re doing and be able to Adjust.

Thiroshan’s Interview

During Thiroshan Chetty’s interview, Buddy focused more on the upcoming tennis stars than the tennis stars of the past. Chetty shared that a few of his students at ages as young as 6 have the drive and skill to one day make it big in the tennis world. He mentioned that he gives his students just enough to keep them hungry for the sport, but also always remembers that they are kids first. He wants them to appreciate the resources they have without becoming burnt out or overwhelmed.
