Losing Weight Requires Creating a Calorie Deficit

By Jeffrey T Spaeth LMT, CPT

The trick to losing weight is to create a calorie deficit. Think of it this way, losing weight is 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise. You can’t just show up at the gym and work out then go home and pig out!

Losing weight involves cardiovascular exercise with varying intensity along with a balanced diet, also variety in your workout with different activities activates different muscle groups.

A person needs to burn 3,500 calories to lose one pound. You should work out more than three hours a week of moderate exercise. A great way to stick to an exercise program is to workout with a buddy or a trainer. Make an appointment to exercise ahead of time or add an alarm to your phone to keep you on track.

When first starting a work out program, be careful not to do too much or workout too fast; this will help avoid any injuries. Don’t starve yourself either; eat a balanced diet with smaller portions. Just a little factoid for you: 1.5 ounces of wine equals approximately 124 calories, so you do the math.

Stop by the gym today and get started with a work out program with me; summer swimsuit weather will be here before you know it!
