Written by Julianne Cuomo, Director of Celebrations.

Christmas is not only the most popular time to get engaged, it is also one of the best times of the year for this memorable event! The holiday season brings an atmosphere full of festivities and fun, therefore making it a perfect environment for a marriage proposal. There are many great ways to pop the question during the holidays and while any proposal is a special one, putting a little extra thought and planning into your proposal will make it extra special. Here are 6 ways to propose to that special someone this Christmas.

Christmas Gift Proposal

The least complex and by far the most traditional way to propose at Christmas is when you and your loved one are opening presents.  This is a great way to make a surprise proposal and you can adapt this in a variety of ways to suit any occasion. This type of proposal works among the entire family or when it is just the two of you.

Christmas Ornament Proposal

An ornament is a great way to propose. You can create your own Christmas ornament and put the engagement ring inside, or buy one that “opens” and has interior nooks & crannies. An engraved ornament simply with the words, “Will you marry me?” is special and classic too. You can also have an ornament made with the words of your choice that asks the question. At the appropriate time, ask your loved one to look at the ornament and pop the question as she gets close to admire it. Then again, you could always just hang the ring box by a ribbon on the tree.

Intimate Christmas Day Proposal

Consider a more intimate experience for your proposal such as the day of Christmas when most of us are winding down from a sometimes chaotic Christmas Eve. You can prepare a small breakfast and read a proposal poem which carries a Christmas theme, highlighting the special significance of getting engaged during the holiday.

Christmas Gift Treasure Hunt

Start by placing “clues” all around the house, each clue leading to small gifts that symbolize fun things you’ve done together, or plan to do together. Each gift should relate to the theme of how great you two are together. Include keepsakes about your fun times together, her favorite things as well as items she requested for Christmas. The final gift will be the ring box that is hidden safely.

Christmas is a very special and romantic time to get engaged. However, a proposal is about the two people involved and the life they hope to have together. It should be personalized to both of their individual styles. Think about the love the two of you share and what would make her the happiest. A marriage proposal will always be cherished, whichever form it takes. Relax and make sure you enjoy every moment of a special day which will be remembered forever.
