Thiroshan Chetty, Director of Tennis – “Where I Came From and Where I’m Going”

We are expanding our blog to hear about all of the fantastic amenities that Golden Ocala has to offer. To begin, we would like to introduce you to our hard working staff members who help make it all possible. Meet Thiroshan Chetty, Director of Tennis at Golden Ocala.

Tennis Was My Vehicle Out of South Africa

I grew up in South Africa and have been playing tennis since age eight. My aunt introduced me to tennis because my uncles were very good players. I was the South African National Junior tennis champion in 1992. For me, tennis was an avenue to get out of the country.

I moved to the United States in 1993 and competed in many national and international tournaments. I graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 2000 and pursued a career in tennis. If I could play tennis with anyone in the world, I would love to play against Roger Federer.

My favorite saying is “Hands that help are holier than lips that pray.” If there’s a way that I can show kindness to someone, I will.

I am married and have a 2 and a half year old daughter. I love to travel, watch movies, and golf.

Building the Program from the Ground Up

I built the tennis program at Golden Ocala from the ground up. In roughly nine years, we went from no buildings to one of the highest-rated programs in the nation. My team and I take great pride in that. My continued aim is to keep Golden Ocala Tennis on the national and international map, as a destination and service.

It’s Easy to Get Involved!

If you are looking to get involved in the sport, we have several different options here at Golden Ocala. You can take lessons or you can join our groups or day leagues. Whether you’ve played before or not, we introduce you to the game in a way that you are comfortable being introduced.

I’m Thiroshan Chetty, Director of Tennis at Golden Ocala, remembering where I came from and knowing where I’m going.
