Walking Your Way to Fitness
Written by Barbara Whatley, Spa & Fitness Director.
Many people want to get into better shape but do not know where to begin. They get scared and discouraged because when they think of working out they think of running for miles or bench pressing multiple reps and heavy weights. They begin to think to themselves, “why bother, I will never be able to do any of that”. An exercise that is often overlooked is walking. Yes, walking could be your gateway to a healthy more energized lifestyle. Below you will see why you should begin you journey to walking your way to fitness.
Improving Your Health
According to the American Heart Association adding 30 minutes of walking to your daily routine can bring you a variety of health benefits. Walking everyday can lower your chances of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Walking also lowers your chance of obesity, improves blood pressure and strengthens your mental health.
How To Begin
Walking is one of the lowest impact exercises and is great for all ages. You can begin your walking regimen anywhere. Take a walk around your neighborhood with a friend or go to your local fitness center. Golden Ocala is a great place to begin your fitness journey. A brisk walk around the clubhouse gardens is a perfect way to destress from a long day of work. Our fitness center also has state of the art treadmills, perfect for your daily walking routine. Once you feel comfortable walking, you may even want to utilize the other equipment or classes available at the fitness center.
I have found more excuses than you can image and now its time to practice what I preach! I want to invite any of our members that have found themselves in the same “rut” to join me Monday – Thursday at 4 pm at the treadmills, bikes, elliptical, rowing machine or spin bike, all located in our fitness center, for 30 minutes of cardio. This is where I will start my journey, beginning Monday 9/15/2014 through 10/23/2014. Begin walking your way to fitness and health at the Golden Ocala Fitness Center!
If you would like to call to reserve your choice of equipment, you may do so by contacting me directly at 352-402-4348.
