Coates Golf Championship Begins Today

The Coates Golf Championship presented by R+L Carriers begins today with the world’s best in women’s professional golf.

This is the second year the LPGA champion has been played at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club and, according to early estimates, this year’s games are going to be bigger and brighter than ever.

Today’s events included all-day professional practice on Golden Ocala’s beautiful 18-hole championship course. The off-site qualifier was held at Ocala National Golf Club.

The Official Pro-Am championship is 7:30 – 9 a.m. and noon – 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Coates Golf Experience is 12 – 2 p.m. on Golden Ocala’s driving range.

The LPGA’s first round of play begins Wednesday and continues throughout the day. The Craft Beer Garden is 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Golf Channel is expected to cover the event 2 – 5 p.m. The Coates Golf Experience is 12 – 2 p.m. on Golden Ocala’s driving range.

The tournament continues Thursday. The Craft Beer Garden is 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Golf Channel is expected to cover the championship 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Coates Golf Experience is 12 – 2 p.m. on Golden Ocala’s driving range.

The third round of play continues all day Friday. The Craft Beer Garden is 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Golf Channel is expected to cover the championship 8 – 10 p.m. The Coates Golf Experience is 12 – 2 p.m. on Golden Ocala’s driving range.

The final round is Saturday. The Craft Beer Garden is 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The LPGA Junior Clinic is 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. with The Golf Channel coverage expected between 3 – 5 p.m. The Coates Golf Experience is 12 – 2 p.m. on Golden Ocala’s driving range. The awards ceremony is scheduled to follow play on the 18th green.

Tickets are still available: Single-day grounds tickets are $15. Weekly grounds tickets are $45. Single-day Craft Beer Garden is $25. A Weekly Craft Beer Garden ticket is $65. Ticket packages for the championship are available online.

Last year’s event generated more than $18.4 million for the local economy and drew more than 80,000 people. About 120 golfers played in last year’s tournament. Last year’s purse totaled more than $1.5 million. The Golf Channel’s coverage is expected to reach more than 165 nations, said Ricki Lasky, the LPGA’s senior vice president of tournament affairs.

Launched in early 2015, Coates Golf Championship is dedicated to promoting women’s golf and offers performance equipment for women.

Na Yeon Choi earned her ninth-career LPGA victory and Lydia Ko, then 17, ascended to No. 1 on the Rolex Rankings at last year’s tournament, according to news sources. “Golf fans in Central Florida and beyond have the opportunity to meet their favorite players and see world-class golf at the Coates Golf Championship,” said tournament director Kelly McAnally in a statement.

Founded in 1950, the LPGA expanded from a tour group into an international nonprofit organization helping sports-related groups and efforts. The association’s headquarters is in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Golden Ocala presents a 10-acre short game area with two practice holes and a driving game. Its Golf Shop sells clubs, clothing and most golf accessories from the game’s top names. Private lessons are offered by PGA professional instructors John Elliot, Jr., Mike Cooney, Nick Montanero, Thomas Moore and Darren Robinson.
