The Roberts Cup 2019

The Roberts Cup is back at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club from November 7th to the 10th — and we’re seeking teams from across the country. You might remember last year’s mid-amateur champions, Kyle Hosick and Chad Branton, as well as our senior division winners, Craig Stephens and Tim Richey — none of whom were members (but members are always welcome to apply, of course). I guess you can say it’s our extensive history and highest quality network that brings us some of the very best golfers this side of the globe has ever seen.

Rules, Regs and Rituals

Before we dig through our memory bank, Director of Golf Ryan Gray and his team want to go over some of the rules, regs and rituals of this world-class event, equivalent to a PGA or LPGA tour.

The Roberts Cup is a scratch four-ball competition. It covers 54 holes and includes our standard divisions — with the senior level being 50-plus-year-old players. The itinerary includes:

  • Tee Gift
  • Players Dinner on November 8th with Special Guests
  • Breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Lunch on Saturday and Sunday
  • Awards and Golf Shop Credit

Beyond Logistics

Any golf course facility that has hosted the 2015 and 2016 LPGA Tour, NCAA Regionals, FSGA Amateur Championship and FSGA Match Play Championship has a story just waiting to be shared. Luckily for Golden Ocala, The Roberts Cup is a chapter in and of itself. It’s the vision of General Manager Joe Donnelly and members Steve Albright, Jimmy Letterly, Brent Dorman and Drew Ditty. As they traveled to golf courses for events just like the one we now offer, this five-man committee desired to showcase our rolling-hilled green to those who would continue to spread the word about Golden Ocala.

The result? Teams have arrived from others parts of the state, as well as Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado and New Jersey — all for a chance at The Roberts Cup. Accompanying guest speakers have ranged from John Elliott, PGA; to UF Golf Coach JC Deacon; to Golf Channel On-Air Talent Cara Banks and Damon Hack.
