Junior Golf Clinic Set For Feb. 6

It came from the Australians: Fore! It means “ahead.” It’s short for “watch out ahead.” Or, if it were uttered by a short-tempered and short-of-skill Aussie golfer, it might be: “Blimey! Duck, mate!”

Then again, it could be the preposition “for.” But it’s not. The word for today is “four” – as in “I’m 4 years old.”

And that is certainly a good age to play golf. Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian is offering a Junior Golf Clinic “for” children to help the nuances and techniques of this ancient pastime. With nearly 30 million players in the United States, it’s a good time to get your children acquainted with the sport. The one-hour clinic starts at 1:30 p.m. during the LPGA.

Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club is hosting the Coates Golf Championship Feb. 1-6, featuring some of the LPGA’s best players.

R+L Carriers is the event’s presenting sponsor; Coates Golf is the title sponsor. Organizers estimated more than 80,000 people attended last year’s event with a local economic impact of $18.4 million.

“The Coates Golf Championship was a great success for Ocala/Marion County in 2015 and we’re excited to bring the event back in February,” said Coates Golf president Mollie Coates in a statement. “Again and again the players commented on the size of the galleries at the inaugural tournament and how welcome they felt within the community. The goal is to continue exceeding the community’s, the players’ and our sponsors’ expectations. It’s an exciting week-long event whether you play golf or not.”

For more information or to sign up for the Junior Golf Clinic, call 352-671-3933 or visit the Golf Shop.

Nearly 3 million children are playing golf in the United States, according to the National Golf Foundation.
