Summer Hair Care Tips

Written By Melodie Garcia, Hair Stylist

Whether you have short hair or long hair, the sun is not our best friend due to the damage and humidity. However there are a few tips to help ease those stressful bad hair days.

If your hair is short & curly or long, putting the moisture back into your hair with conditioners or conditioning treatments is the key to eliminating frizzy hair.

The protective layer of protein that coats our hair gets damaged by the heat from the sun. The sun actually breaks down the protein that we need to maintain strength and shine in the hair. What we are left with is damage control.

The chlorine in pools can damage hair. Make sure to wash hair after leaving the pool & condition it well.

Then if we take a dip in the pool or the ocean to cool off, we need to be aware of how to counteract the effects of chlorine in a pool and the salt in the ocean. Wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo and conditioner. It’s also advised to apply oil to the hair to reduce frizz.

But take note, washing your hair too much can also cause damage, so try to limit washing when possible.

Then finally, make sure to get a haircut on a regular basis to remove split ends. Don’t get overwhelmed by summer hair care!
