Junior Tennis: Role of the Parent

Written By Thiroshan Chetty, Director of Tennis

The role parents play is one of the most important parts of a tennis player’s development. Many coaches struggle to find a way to inform the parent about their role in the development of the junior.

So what is the role of the parent and the coach? Well the coach is hired to try and develop the junior player and be the voice in their game. Unfortunately many parents also try and voice their opinion into the junior’s game which can cause confusion and set the player back. Parent involvement and praise is always encouraged, but the job of coaching should be handled by the coach.

The role of the parent should be to support their child in their journey to success. Questions or criticisms should be discussed privately between the coach and parent. The coach wants to fully explain the process so the parent understands. It creates a much healthier learning environment when the coach can focus all their attention to the junior.

The Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club has an active junior tennis program and a number of the area’s top junior players train here. Parents give us a call today so we can help your junior reach their potential on the tennis court. For more information about the tennis programs available, contact the pro shop at 352-402-4351 and follow our blog.
