What Are the Wedding Dos and Don’ts?

Romantic love often serves as imagination’s sweet motivator – to create a work of beautiful art, of majestic sound, of exquisite taste; the day of your wedding is your hearts’ masterpiece for family and friends to appreciate and enjoy. You choreograph passion, you construct nuptial wonder. And one iota out of place and your picture-perfect ceremony – assembled from so much sweat and tears – turns disastrous. You want to know the wedding dos and don’ts.

While we at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club can certainly empathize with your ardor, we’re offering 10 etiquette tips from Wedding Paper Divas® to help ensure you and your wedding party align the details of the most important day of your life into a ceremony and celebration you will never be able to forget.

  1. White Out: Despite supposedly changing fashion trends, only the bride wears white for weddings and showers.
  2. How Inviting: Only invited guests should attend. Exceptions may be allowed if invitations state: “and guest” or “and family.”
  3. Please Mr. Postman: Mail wedding gifts to the bride or her parents prior to the wedding. Gifts can be misplaced at weddings.
  4. I Pronounce Thee: Attend both the ceremony and the reception. It’s the height of tackiness to show up at the ceremony only.
  5. Better Late Than Never? Wrong! Arrive at the ceremony before the bride. Remember, the bride is supposed to be the center of attention. Respect that. If you don’t know the area, leave early for the wedding.
  6. No Comment For The Press: Unless otherwise noted, shoot pictures before or after the ceremony. The wedding organizers usually hire a professional photographer. Ceremonies should be kept sacred – with no cameras clicking or flashing.
  7. Let Them Eat Cake: If you’re in a hurry, stay at least until the cake is cut. And stay through the ceremony and into the celebration.
  8. Fare Thee Well: Give the wedding couple well wishes before you leave. Congratulate the couple’s families.
  9. Read Step 3 Again: Send wedding gifts BEFORE the wedding. Don’t wait until afterward.
  10. Here Comes The Grouch: Brides: Smile. Then smile some more. Then keep on smiling. Wipe off that look of confusion, bewilderment or anxiety. Wedding experts say smiling brides set the wedding’s tone.
