Sometimes, just sometimes, after all has been said and done, you just have to do something really fun. Fun, fantastically creative and even artistic.

Well, we here at Golden Golf & Equestrian Club understand fun. While we occasionally delve into the creative and artistic realm, we have a firm grasp on fun. In fact, we’re offering our members and their guests the opportunity to participate in Painting with a Twist.

Hosted by Painting with a Twist®, our Painting and Cocktails Party on Oct. 19 offers aspiring artists (and just plain lovers of fun) an occasion for fun and creativity.

The party starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Golden Ocala Ballroom. The $45 fee includes painting supplies, canvas, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Reservations can be made by calling 629-6229. Painting can be done as a couple (with two canvases) or as singles. Member guests are welcome.

Painting With a Twist Helps Community

Dubbed the country’s largest employer of aspiring artists, the franchise Painting with a Twist® began under the name of Corks N Canvas in 2007. Painting with a Twist® now has 317 franchises, including one in Ocala.

Event organizers usually put small groups of friends together with a “lively” instructor – mixed together with some fine wine – to create individual art works.

Painting with a Twist® artists have produced more than 3,500 art pieces in the last five years. Instructors help painters to develop their artistic visions with easy-to-follow guides. Artists typically produce landscapes, abstracts, cityscapes, seafood, animals, famous buildings and flower arrangements.

Renee Maloney and Cathy Deano worked in fundraising before founding Painting with a Twist® and incorporated values of community involvement. The two formed Painting with a Purpose as a way to publicize monthly charity events to help generate donations for local causes. Participating nonprofit organizations have included St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, the Al Copeland Foundation, Leaps & Bounds Sports Center and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Painting with a Twist® boasts donations of nearly $1 million to local groups, which includes Habitat for Humanity, Multiple Sclerosis and Odyssey House.
